TABLE TENNIS: Forum close in on crown

From the archive, first published Wednesday 4th Apr 2007.

FORUM A are on the brink of becoming Oxford & District League Division 1 champions for the fifth successive season after beating Morris Motors B 9-1.

Karl Bushell recorded his 18th maximum of the season, and he was well supported by a hat-trick of wins from Greg Boone.

This latest victory leaves Forum still needing two points to be certain of finishing ahead of closest rivals Forum B.

Morris Motors A, who are desperately trying to avoid being relegated with clubmates Motors B, did well to hold Vikings A to a 5-5 draw.

With Nigel Taylor injured, Greg Donovan made the draw possible by winning all three of his games.

Ian Arnold completed the task by beating Peter Dasher, and then teaming up with Donovan to win the doubles.

Begbroke A stay top of Division 2, despite losing 7-3 to Forum C.

Chris Williams was the star for Forum with three wins, while Lewis Hooper and Martin Sverak followed up with two each.

Eamonn Deeley bagged a brace of maximums as relegation candidates Vikings B held high-flying Haddenham A to a 5-5 draw, and then beat fellow strugglers Forum E 6-4.
